My recommendation for running anything bigger than a 33" tire is to add hydro assisted steering.

Central Illinois. You should be able to fit a 35" tall tire no problem. Lots of others have put 35x12.50s stock height on these 17s with no issues at all. The issue may be in the rear duals if you went with a wide tire such as a 12.50" width. If you want the truck to ride worse than it does now, put a lift kit on it. If you want it to ride better than stock do a PMF or SKY reverse shackle kit with 2000 to 2004 front leafs ... Mainly just want the longer footprint when aired down & a little extra height for the diffs 😁. You can fit 37s on 250s with just a level. Maybe some slight trimming if you disconnect sway bars and stuff a wheel.
