This is more word of mouth from multiple technicians than official advise. Their argument against it is that the engine will eventually wear out quicker because of the uneven detonation of the engine when shutting down a cylinder. Just what I've heard, not sure if that's accurate but it was enough for me to shut it off.

There's no way I can diagnose your problem over the Internet, and in fact, if the bike was in front of me I couldn't help you much. This will require a DT-II which is available ONLY at a Harley dealership.
