John deere 4020 problems
Symptom #01: Screeching Noise. The bearings of a John Deere tractor play an important role, helping to deliver efficient performance. They can be worn out due to continuous use. Also, bearings get exposed to dirt and debris. As a result, the alternator generates less power, causing a grinding or screeching noise.
Remove the screw, install a plastic line on the fitting and start the tractor. Turn the steering wheel to the RH stop position and open the fitting slowly. Let oil bleed out the line until no bubbles are present then tighten the fitting. Be careful as the steering wheel may jump after the bubbles are gone. Recheck the steering.

If the sump screen was "completely plugged" you need to pull the final drives, repair the brakes and clean the rear end housing out and THEN start to sort out your hydraulic problems. Your problem may be caused by foreign material in the pump stroke control valve & the screen in the stroke control valve housing.

It was 1 owner but we knew the maint was very poor... Changing all fluids and filters --expecting to see some gremlins pop up. Our issue now is the powershift going forward works great. The aluminum carb was a real bad deal, the big iron carb with vacuum accelerator pump was not much better. In my opinion the carb on the 4020 was much oversize for the application and runs poor at anything but full load.The super 4020 title was a very accurate on for them. 18.4x38 tires are probably the most common size for them. The power difference between them and a 4020 is very noticeable. Without a turbo a 4020 will usually smoke very heavy once you push it to around 110 hp.
